David Parker Ray is suspected to have murdered as many as 60 people using a homemade tortue chamber costing $100,000 that he referred to as his “toy box”. The chamber had whips, chains, pulleys, straps, clamps, leg spreader bars, surgical blades and saws.
Ray would recorded himself on audio tapes and would play them for his victims when they would regain consciousness.
Cynthia Vigil escaped after stabbing Ray’s accomplice with an icepick and running away, wearing only a slave collar and padlocked chains on March 22, 1999.
Ray was sentenced to 224 years in prison. He died eight months after he was sentenced from a massive heart attack. Ray served a total of two and a half years.
